DR20 too many problems?

PostMon Jun 02, 2025 6:36 pm

I installed DR20 Studio over trusty 19 and problems seem to be more than I expected
1. For some reason, now Resolv shuffles clips when adding in bulk in a timeline (I use DJI drones, they cut clips in many files) this never happened before!
2. AV1 4K export is somehow inconsistent - on some clips it exports with 150+ fps (4K 10 bit) on some with 90-100 - with version 19 it always was ~100
3. retime curves are gone? Why now is a lot more tedious to do different speeds in a clip :(
4. and it modifies project files so I can't go back to 19 till they fix it :(

All in all for my usage 20 is a downgrade for now - hope they'll fix it soon!

Re your number 4. It is always recommended to make an export of your database before updating to a newer version such as going from 19 to 20. Databases are not backwards compatible. This is normal. The release notes contain this warning.

Number 1 happens in DR 19.x as well to me with DJI Action 4 clips. They are mostly in sequence but every now and then a couple of ones are out sequence.

Generally consider DR20 a beta for next six months probably. Not sure why they released it out of beta but it's still full of bugs and some features are not complete

#3, Retime curves in edit tab have been completely reworked to address limitations they had before. Reviews I have seen of the changes have been positive.

But it will no doubt be a bit of a learning curve. I think it was Mr Alex Tech who I saw demoing them, good source for you to learn on.

Hi Alex, Mario

Can you describe some steps (or record a video) on how you add the DJI Action 4 clips to the timeline? Please include:
• media pool - which page are you on
• media pool state - icons vs list, sort order
• how you select - using cmd/shift-click, drag-select, hotkey (Cmd-A)?
• how you add - is it context click > "Create timeline with"? A specific action (Insert/append etc)
• Can you add 1-2 sample clips that we can examine?

Thanks

I do the same as Alex: in the edit page I drag all the clips from the media pool (here they are displayed in file name order) and drag them to the timeline.

If I were to guess out of 50 to 100 clips at least 2 or 3 are out of order. I always thought the system gets confused by the file name which contain the time and date as well in the name itself.

For example this one clip is named DJI_20240930090342_0038_D.MP4 I thought what happens is that the system doesnt always know that "0038" is the sequence number and perhaps picks up the time and date part, in this case "20240930090342".

Of course DJI putting D at the end when you shoot in D Log M doesnt help.

This to me happened on DR 19.x - I am not sure it happens on DR20 because I am working with projects with timelines created already in DR19. Today I will be creating a new project but it has only a few clips. It usually happens to me when working with a fair amount of clips. But I'll have a look if I can reproduce the problem even with just a bunch of clips.

Madia pool on the edit page. List View, Clip Name. I select usually with Cmd-A or cmd/shift-click the first and last clip

I drag them into a pre existing empty timeline, it has some image and text but other than that it's empty. It's a template timeline of sort.
