What was the last version of DR that did not require CUDA?

PostTue Jun 03, 2025 6:10 pm

I haven't used DR in several months. I opened it up today, saw there was an update, and went for it. Unfortunately, my machine doesn't have CUDA (?) and DR won't run.
Does anyone know the last free version of DR that did not require that?

Thanks for your time!

Resolve always requires CUDA when NVIDIA GPU's are in use.

Resolve 20 requires a higher level of CUDA support, which requires using a current NVIDIA driver.

You've provided no details on your system, but likely all you need to do is go to the the NVIDIA driver downloads site, and download and install the current Studio driver for your GPU:

Sorry, didn't even think about it. I was just going to run an earlier version. My machine is kinda old - built it about 7 years ago.

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700K CPU @ 4.20GHz 4.20 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB
Storage 466 GB SSD Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB, 466 GB HDD ST500DM002-1BD142
Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 Ti (4 GB)

Checking on a possible driver update now...

Yeah, sorry for wasting your time. Updated the driver and all is good.
I assumed my machine wasn't good enough to run it (much like newer video games).

Resolve is mainly gpu based, if you update gpu and add 32gb of ram you could do a lots more with your actual computer.
Ps check the power box, newer gpu require a bit more energy ;-)

While Resolve itself will run, that 1050 Ti with only 4 GB of video RAM will likely not be enough for some of the features to either run at all, or they will run painfully slow. If you do go for any of the upgrades mentioned above, try for a minimum of 12 and ideally 16 GB of VRAM.

(Edit) My desktop runs Resolve well, but my laptop, with a GTX 1660 Ti (6 GB), struggles or even crashes with the newer, more complex features such as the Relight effect.
