Recurring audio playback issues in DaVinci Resolve

PostSat May 17, 2025 6:00 pm

I’m experiencing a serious and persistent audio playback problem in DaVinci Resolve. While the video plays normally, the audio intermittently works, goes completely silent, or starts crackling and distorting badly-almost like a strangled dolphin sound.

I have already tried all the commonly recommended troubleshooting steps, including:

1. Setting the correct audio output device in Resolve’s preferences and restarting the program;
2. Ensuring both timeline and playback frame rates are aligned (both set to 60fps);
3. Updating Windows audio drivers via Device Manager, Windows Update, and manufacturer websites;
4. Verifying the source video files have no audio issues;
5. Clearing cache and resetting Resolve preferences;

None of these measures have resolved the issue. Reinstalling the software repeatedly is not a viable solution for me, as it is highly disruptive and impractical.

Given that this appears to be a recurring bug affecting a significant number of users, I would like to ask if there is any official plan or timeline for a DaVinci Resolve update that addresses this audio playback problem.

This issue is discouraging new users like myself who chose DaVinci Resolve as their primary editing tool, only to be frustrated by unstable audio playback-an essential aspect of video editing.

I appreciate any insights or official information from the Blackmagic team or the community regarding a fix.

Thank you!

Yeah... Thank for the help then. I think I will look for other program to edit. Filmora has no problem so I'll stick to it.

BMD doesn't typically tell us about the future. New versions just show up one day.

You don't give us any details to even speculate with, here.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

First thing to try is de-selecting Show All Video Frames if it is selected. With this selected Resolve prioritizes picture over audio. If your computer is not too powerful the audio may well skip as Resolve tries to keep it in sync. H264, and especially h265 at 60fps take a lot of processing power to decode and encode.
What are your computer specs?
