First session on 20, many bugs

PostSat Jun 07, 2025 12:50 pm

Hi all,

Earlier this week I upgraded from Resolve 19 to 20 and found a laundry list of bugs, mostly in just one editing session. I thought I'd list them here because I have no idea whether there is an official place for submitting bug reports.

  • Live Media Preview switched on after upgrading but I had it off in 19.
  • All my User transition lengths were reset when upgrading from Resolve 19 to 20.
  • Layout changes when switching from a horizontal video timeline to a vertical one. Layout can't be restored back to a saved preset for that timeline, only when switching back to a timeline that didn't previously have this issue.
  • Changes to transition default durations sometimes don't remain at the new value.
  • Crash Zoom transition sometimes does not fade out properly at the end of a clip and remains on-screen.
  • Starred transitions do not appear in Favourites.
  • When switching between large bins containing titles or clips, the last viewed position (where you've scrolled to) in that bin often isn't remembered. (This is a longstanding bug going back several versions that still isn't fixed in 20.)
  • Sometimes, when using the Speed Editor in the Source monitor, the In point isn't placed at the current position, but further along the clip when the IN button is pressed. Workaround is to move one frame forwards or backwards then back to the original frame and set the In point. (Another longstanding bug.)
  • Some saved titles can't be dragged out of a power bin. (ANOTHER longstanding bug not fixed in 20.)
  • If a stacked timeline tab is added, it can't be removed unless a timeline is selected first.
  • Project Manager layout resets between sessions.

Definitely was a much more jarring experience upgrading from 19 to 20 than from any previous two versions of Resolve.

That's actually a new Feature in version 20. You can turn it off under Preferences>User>UI Settings.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
