Can't Select Video Tracks

PostTue May 21, 2024 3:32 pm

When a video or audio track is selected in the Edit Page, a red box is supposed to appear around the V1 or A1, etc., that immediately precede the track. I've attached an image showing how the A1 is highlighted in my current project. The problem I'm having is that I can't select any of the video tracks to make the V1 or V2, etc., highlight as they are supposed to. I can easily activate various audio tracks, but none of the video tracks!
This is not any issue with other projects of mine. Any thoughts?

This is a fairly complex project with multiple video tracks, 18 audio tracks and hundreds of clips, so it won't be easy to paste these clips into another project, so I'm hoping someone can suggest something, perhaps a setting, something stupid, that I'm overlooking.

Thanks,

Pete

I've never seen this before. Does the shortcut Alt+1 have any affect? There is a TracK Destination section near the bottom of the Timeline dropdown menu.

THANK YOU, CHARLIE! That did it! After doing Option-1, it automatically selected the V1 channel and I can now freely go back and forth between channels by clicking on them. It's like they were frozen or something.

Thanks again!

After updating to version 19.1 Build 12, the same thing happens to me. I can select the video track using keyboard shortcuts (Option + 1, 2, 3, etc.) but not by clicking the track selector. It looks like it's a bug in this version.

PS: It got worse and I don't know what happened... now I cannot select any video track at all - not even with the keyboard shortcut. Will try restarting my computer

I am on the same boat, I am unable to select a track in any way. I can only drag a clip and that in itself is also buggy. What the heck is going on with this program? I need to roll back the version. DR is getting more and more temperamental. I hope this is not a sign of heading in the same direction as Premiere and they horrendous reliability.

The UI has changed in 19.1 from previous versions. You have a couple of options. Either click on the orange box and drag it to the track you would like as the destination or right-click on the destination and selected from a context pop-up menu.

Dude, I edit with my keyboard using shortcuts. That is too long winded. I have V mapped as insert adn b as override and the thing is, I can't even do that because the track won't allow to be selected

There are quite a few shortcuts for Track Destination Selection, Sam. You can find them under the Timeline menu. Does that help?

Every project I've created in every version of Resolve that I've used has had this issue. How do we get this fixed? My main need for selecting the track is to use the select "Forward on Track" to select all clips from the playhead forward. A workaround seems to be to disable auto track selector on all other tracks and then use Alt/Option-Y to use "Forward on All Tracks".

Audio tracks always seem to be selectable. Video tracks - I've rarely seen selection work.

Oh interesting! If you drag a clip containing both audio and video onto the timeline, you will be able to select the video track. Then, unlink and delete the audio clip. Now, you can still select the video track.

Why is track selection dependent on having a linked or at least initially linked audio? There must be an explanation for this, but it doesn't make sense to me.

The default Y shortcut will do this. (Alt+Y for all tracks.)

Oddly, Auto Track Selectors have no effect here. Track Destination Selection does, though. That makes it...difficult to get the proper selection. I don't know if this part is a bug or a poor design choice, though.
