While rendering a video with more then one encoder?

PostTue Jun 10, 2025 9:06 am

While rendering a video using a GPU with more then one NVENC encoder and decoder like the RTX5090 has, are the extra encoders used to speed up the rendering, is so is it twice as fast rendering with 2 encoders if the encoder was the limiting factor? My uses us HEVC H265 encoding.

If I'm not using any processing other than trimming the timeline, no video modification, would the RTX5070ti or RTX5080ti be almost as fast for rendering 8K videos as a RTX5090?

I don't think Resolve will do smart rendering for h265 based files, so you need to re-encdoe which is bit waste of time and quality.
Try using media management option instead.
If not working then this is task for some simple tool which can trim as Resolve route seems to be pointless in this case (if re-encoding needed). There is a free tool called LosslessCut (QT X on Mac can trim).

Thanks I think that will be useful in many cases. However some of my editing is on h.265 and I want finer precision on the cut location than the nearest i-frame. That would probably be 0.5 to 2 seconds off of ideal. The smartcut feature doesn't seem to work well with H.265.

H265 can also have open GOP and then smart cut is very difficult and can be way less precise.
There are solution which will let you cut at precise point and then re-encode only 1 GOP around cut point. Not sure if LosslessCut does it. You can read in its description.

For simple renders my GH6 h265 10 bit 59.94P Vlog files will render at 5 times realtime to rec709 file with my 4070Ti which has dual encoders. I think it will also not re-encode if there are no changes in the files.

I get 173ps encoding to 4K h.265 with 1 encoder, 295fps using 2 encoders. This is with a 4090, 5090 have 3x encoders and also they may work better/faster

Great info. I'm have a lowly 3060 with one encoder and it is always pinned at 100% while other metrics are well below 100%. So the encoding is my bottleneck. Considering getting a 5070ti since this is the "cheapest" gpu with 2 encoders and the 16GB of VRAM can hurt.

A good upgrade. Something unusual I saw was a Resolve Tutorial guy on YT using Magic Mask2(Better) getting about 26fps with a 5070ti while tracking. I get more like 23fps, 5070ti has many less tensor cores but MM2 got more speed out of the 5070ti, maybe true for many tasks in Resolve.

(From the Future) Correction his top MM2 speeds were in the 20 - 23fps range
