Updated to D20 - Project Screen now Black

PostThu Jun 12, 2025 7:43 am

Kindly asking for any and all help. I updated from DaVinci 19 to 20 tonight. DaVinci 20 opens fine like it always did. However, when I click on a project (new or old, doesn't matter), my screen goes black. But DaVinci is still up and working because if you move your mouse around/hover over areas, you see the cursor change or things pop up. For instance, here I am hovering over a "Stop" button. If I guess right, I can click on the minimize or exit buttons for the window at the top right. Everything seems to be there, I just can't see anything.

Don't really know how to provide any diagnostics since the screen is black and I can't really navigate, but I did a capture logs execute that I can share. Tried rebooting PC. Updated drivers and rebooted again.

My thinking is a GPU issue. Investigate that.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

In a File Explorer window, go to:

C:\Program Files\Blackmagic Design\DaVinci Resolve

and run CaptureLogs

This will place a Resolve log file named similar to this on your Windows Desktop: DaVinci-Resolve-logs-20181228_140434.zip (You may not see the .zip extension if your system is set to hide known extensions).

Then open the Windows System Information app and do a File - Save (Not a File Export), which will generate a .NFO file.

Place both those files on a file sharing site and provide links to the files here. Make sure the links don't require access credentials.

If you are a new Forum user, you may not be allowed to post URLs. If this happens, just put a space near the front of the URL, so the system doesn't think it's a URL.

The .NFO file shows that you have displays connected to both the RX 7900 XTX GPU and the onboard GPU.

If that's true, that's an issue. All displays need to be connected to the RX 7900 XTX GPU.

If that's not the issue, you have a pretty old 24.5.1 AMD driver installed. Download and install the current 25.6.1 driver. You should be able to do that by right clicking an empty area of your Desktop and selecting the AMD Software option, then selecting the gear icon in the upper right to get to the System area, and it should show an option to update to the current driver.
