Resolve Database Migration issue

PostThu Jun 12, 2025 8:12 pm

I moved my database and preferences from my Intel Mac DR19 to my new M4 Mac Studio DR20.
/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database
this has always been the database location, as far as I know.

When I launched DR20 it showed no existing projects.
Searched computer and found a new database location
~/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database

Did not find anything posted about this on forums or in manual.
Does DR20 now use the user folder for the database? if so, why doesn't DR20 automatically move from the original location to the new location?
DR Studio 20, Fusion Studio 20
macOS 15.5
M4 Mac Studio 64GB
M4 Mac mini 16GB

Prior to Resolve 16, the project library location was in /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database/Resolve Projects/Users

If you had Resolve installed prior to 16, this location would continue to be used as you updated Resolve.

But starting in Resolve 16, if you do a fresh Resolve install on a Mac, the project library location is changed to :

/Users/XXXX/Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/Davinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database/Resolve Projects/Users/Resolve Projects/

Where XXXX is your Mac Users name.

Ideally, you should not have manually moved things. You should have made a project library backup from the Intel system and the Restored that backup on the M4, then it all would have worked.

A simple alternative is, select the folder from the old machine, "Resolve Disk Database", and move it to the root of the current system or any other local disk. Then rename the folder to something more pertinent to the projects it contains.

Then in Resolve, use the library manager to connect to that folder you just renamed. That should present all your prior projects and library settings.
