I just had the most stressful editing experience in my life

PostFri Jun 13, 2025 10:17 am

I don't want to exaggerate but this was on another level:

Fusion compositions flickering, render cache flickering, RED Raw playback almost impossible, Keyframes in Fusion resetting without touching or without going to the fusion page (especially easing!), completely rendered timeline not playing in realtime with ssds, gpus and cpu not doing anything, masks resetting, voice isolation resetting, track targeting from source mode absolutely REFUSING to work in anyway, even crashes which I never had, etc., etc., etc.

I'm just here to vent because I didn't meet a deadline today because of all this. I just really really hope Resolve doesn't go down the drain but this was the most issues I had in a single HOUR (let alone the last few days) with Resolve since my first use of Resolve. I had never made the update to Version 20 if I hadn't been forced to but PLEASE for the future mark this as a beta since the software obviously isn't finished yet. I get the market is competitive and investors probably breathing down your necks but right now I'm about to lose a job and I'm the little guy who relies on this work to actually SURVIVE.

Thanks for hearing me out. Over.

Don't let anybody force you to upgrade before a few more versions have been out!
For professional work, stick to the older one for a while. It's not really BM's fault alone, since everybody is going 'final' with betas these days, so they want to stay ahead. And we, as the users, are a part of the problem if we jump on everything 'new' and 'better' right away.
Don't worry, version 20 will mature with time, as former versions did. But until then, sandbox it and do your daily work with 19.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

I feel you, I had a similar day when I updated to DVR 19.0.

Editing was just impossible (many others reported the same issue and BMD issued a fix in a week) and I wasted a whole morning testing, restarting, troubleshooting.

I'm refusing to upgrade to 20 before 20.1 is out - knowing that even 19.1 didn't work for me (BMD acknowledged the issue though).

So, out of curiosity, who or what forced you to upgrade? If I relied on DVR for serious work (I am just an small YT'er) I wouldn't update unless I was 100% sure that the package works for me - that means testing everything on a separate machine - or create a separate Windows installation where those things can be tested. You just need a small SSD for that.

Are you really sure Windows was not in the middle of an update. When ever something strange happens I now look for Windows update and almost every time I find an update. I know I have mentioned before but when you think the updates are finished they have not and I find that to be certain I do a Windows update check three times with full shutdowns each time. Windows seems to not complete each time and sometimes downloads some things without giving any indications. I have found in this state my PC will sometimes not operate with USB drives, mouse operates randomly, etc. I have my WIn10 Pro set to not update for 7 days etc but does not seem to matter it still downloads somethings. !!!

So my attitude now is if something does not seem to work the way I am used to, I do a Win Update check.

If I want to avoid Windows update getting in the way I simply disable internet access while editing. There's nothing I need outside of my own network so that works for me but I guess if you're reliant on cloud-based resources that's not an option.
