No Sound

It was working until today. I can get sound from other apps and the system, just not Davinci resolve. Nothing is Muted or Solo. I can see that there is sound on the audio line.

Mac mini M4 Pro
System set to Studio Display Speakers
Video and Audio I/o has input device and output device the to the studio display.

I've rebooted, reinstalled. rolled back to 20.0b Build 27

It's me, I know it. Anybody any ideas.

It doesn't matter which sound output I select, Including Scarlet 8i6 and every other potential system output.

Is "automatic speaker configuration" enabled (Resolve Preferences > System > Video and Audio IO)?

Is another device available for temporary selection as input/output device?

I tried it both ways first where the input device and output device were the same thing in this particular case the studio display (although I have chosen the Scarlet 806 as the input and output devices with no success either).

In both cases, I have enabled automatic speaker configuration and disabled it and selected either the studio display speakers or the Scarlet speakers.

Everything else on the computer works fine, music video, YouTube, etc. just da Vinci Resolve.

Now, without any changes it is working. Weird.

Keep this open for a week or two, has anybody else seen this in the Studio 20 Beta release?

I was just editing. I'moved a track to be audio and video 1 and I lost the sound. I moved it up to video and audio 3 and the sound is still gone. Really rude.

At this point, I have rolled back to the official version 20 (no beta release) I have Ben rebooting the computer between each software installation to make sure it has a clean boot, with no success yet.

I have also opened up other projects to see if I can work my way through them and also they have no sound. The audio line shows that there is sound, it is not playing through headphones or speakers. Through my OWC thunderbolt dock, Apple, studio, display, Scarlet 8i6.
It doesn't matter if I use my studio display for input and output, my OWC thunderbolt dock, my Scarlet 8i6.

I've had similar issues in 20 but just with certain clips. Was this happening for your whole timeline? Similarly, the clips in question on my project would play sometimes, other times they wouldn't. As a plus (for me) I learned how to remove audio tracks from sync'd video in Media. Sweet.

I also have no sound after updating Davinci Resolve Studio, although it is shown in the program. What kind of glitchy version is this??? Who wrote it - AI? Horrible. The sound works fine in the system. But not in Davinci....

Ok, after spending some time on the the phone with Roslam (sorry if I misspelled the name). Right now, the problem is reproducible where if you try to drag the play head, you do not hear sound while editing, but if you use j,k,l, you can hear sound.

Look in the Timeline menu at the top, then Audio. Is Audio Scrubbing enabled?

I have had this issue a lot recently. It seems DR 19 (haven't tried 20 yet) has a problem when the sample rate is not what it is expecting. Sometimes the project will play with no audio (go to the Fairlight page and the playhead won't move when you press play), sometimes it will completely crash DR (POOF! GONE!).

Double-check your audio interface hasn't changed to a different samplerate than DR is expecting.
(My audio interface is word-clock sync'd to an external clock (music mixing/mastering studio) and I need to manually change the SR on the external clock source when I want to change system SR.)

When will the fix for version 20 be released - where will the sound return? Everything worked for me in versions 17, 18, 19. And this 20th is just awful!

I deleted version 20 of Davinchi studio. And installed 19 again. And what? - THE SOUND IS GONE THERE TOO!!!!! What did you program there? This looks like sabotage! Actually, people get fired for that! Imagine what they'll do in Hollywood, for example, after such a trick on your part? Should we all switch to some other video editing programs now? I'm already thinking about it...

Thank you. Now the sound slider moves. But there is still no sound. If you render a movie, there is sound. But in the editor it is not. And note that this is the 19th version!
What should be removed to return all settings to the 19th version. Because only after the 20th version the sound disappeared. Simply deleting the 2nd version did not help! Maybe clean something in the Windows registry?

Alex, you can make screenshots with the builtin Windows tool called "Snipping Tool".

Make and post screenshots of (make sure to resize the windows):

-> Preferences -> System -> Video and Audio I/O

the sound from the computer goes to an external sound card (steinberg or behringer) - and from it to the headphones. Or if there are no headphones, I can listen to the sound through the monitor speakers (the sound goes through HDMI). I tried to turn on the sound directly through the computer - it does not help. In Windows, the sound works fine through anything...
Oh, thank you! ASIO was turned off for some reason. After turning it on - the sound finally appeared!

You are not reading the forum carefully. It was not a "user error". I have been working with the Davinchi program for many years. Version 20 ruined everything! And after deleting it from the computer, I installed the old version 19 again. But there was no sound in it either. The program itself should see what settings are in the computer. It has always been like that. I never went into the ASIO settings when installing Davinchi. And everything always worked. Therefore, you need to read the forum carefully. and not make hasty conclusions. Davinchi 20 is a very unfinished program...

No. It was an user error. As you are having more than one audio I/O engine, it is your responsibility to set it up correctly. Davinci cannot know which audio I/O engine is the correct one for you.
Don't blame your lack of experience onto the software. It is ok to not have the knowledge, but don't make unjustified assumptions about the software.

No. It was an user error. As you are having more than one audio I/O engine, it is your responsibility to set it up correctly. Davinci cannot know which audio I/O engine is the correct one for you.

Here you are, lovers of arguing. There is no sound in the 20th version, as it turns out, because there is no continuity of versions. We take a project made in the old version and open it. The program asks to recode it - we agree. The project opens - but there is no sound! Everything is fine in the settings (the sound works in some projects!). Then we make another track in the project where the sound does not work. And we put the same file on it. And what? This new track has sound! (in the project where there is no sound).
What does this mean? If you are a programmer - then this means that the program of the 20th version does not convert projects from its own old version well!!! It's like Microsoft's Windows upgrades are written by Indians with a lot of glitches. And when they began to involve artificial intelligence instead of Indians - (Windows 11) - everyone began to abandon the program en masse.
The same is true here. The manufacturer is to blame! And you are trying to justify yourself and shift the blame to the user! It's not looking good. I am an engineer and a programmer myself. So I understand programs.

For someone who has " been using DaVinci for many years", not checking your audio chain and making sure ASIO was enabled, but blaming the software for the problem, is user error.
Years of experience with Resolve should mean you know all its ins and outs and where to look if a problem arises.
