Media Offline Issue

PostSat Jun 14, 2025 10:29 pm

I see that this is a topic discussed many times on this forum..
I spent many hours going through the various solutions that have seemed to work for people, with no luck.,

I've been dealing with this issue for the last 7 days.
The footage I am having an issue with is ProRes (4444), 4K, shot at 24fps. No various frame rates in play.

I am using a T7 Shield.
Working with the free version of Resolve. I'm working with a Macbook Air 2022, M2.

The problem initially was only with footage that I had recently developed.. I moved the 11 minutes of film, about 210GB onto the T7 Shield, then resolve immediately began flashing the "media offline", every few seconds. The film plays perfecly in quick player.

Something that I find very strange.. After this issue showed up, I went to another project I had, 4k footage (ProRes) I had that was saved on my mac, not the T7, also began flashing "media offline". Footage then had been perfectly normal until all of this mayhem.

I tried a different SSD, as well as using a different cable.
Could the free version of resolve somehow be the issue all of a sudden?

Solutions attempted:
- Cleared cache
- Turned render cache to "none"
- Converted the file to DNxHR using Shutter Encoder
- Selected "generate optimized media" for the clip
- Upgraded to a faster SSD (Sandisk 2000mb)
- Upgraded to a faster cable

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which version of DR, 19 or 20? The free version shouldn't be a problem at all for ProRes (any flavour).

Uli, thanks for the response.

I am using version 20.. I am beginning to worry that this may be an encoding issue? I'm not an expert in this area by any means.. However, the problem is only with files from one particular film lab who did the 4k scans..

Is there a possible solution with Shutter Encoder, even if it means a loss of quality in the footage?

If Shutter Encoder can read them, yes.
But what if you post a short sample to a cloud service, so that others can look at it?

Uli, good to hear from you. I can absolutely do that.. But before I do, I think I have found the issue, or at least a large part of it..

After noticing that the flashing of "media offline" occurred with footage that I moved over to the T7 Shield, footage that for months had been flawless, I began to test a couple more files.
I found that nearly every piece of footage that I moved to the T7 Shield, began to flash this error message.

Worse yet, even after I moved the files onto the storage it previously was being kept on, the problem still persisted.
The only solution I found just yesterday evening, is to reencode using Shutter Encoder, making sure the new footage doesn't touch the T7.

Does this sound like the Shield is corrupting these files? Or am I missing the picture entirely?
If you have any insights to share, that would be fantastic.

Sorry, but I have no T7 shield and never experienced something like that with any other.
