Project setting to support broadcast and non broadcast

PostFri Jun 20, 2025 6:20 pm

Hi Folks,

Working on my first project with NTSC broadcast deliverables and was wondering what was the best way to set up the project. Specifically we are delivering both broadcast and non-broadcast deliverables. We're filming 29.97p.

My preference is to set up the project 29.97p and then when we come to export the broadcast deliverables, we export the XDCAM/50Mbps in the MXF container as interlaced. However a colleague said that it would be better to set the project up as interlaced from the get-go, and now I'm doubting my plan.

Anyone with more broadcast knowledge than me (which is probably almost everyone) care to offer insight?

Thanks.

I'd stick with your original plan... shoot and cut 29.97p, export as 29.97psf for broadacst and 29.97p for non-broadcast.

I'd shoot in 23,976p and do a pulldown to 29,97i for television.

Why shoot 23.976 Lucas? Are you one of these 24fps purists  But I'm genuinely interested in the answer as I know I have a lot to learn.

Because 24 fps framerate is more compliant for other kind of distributions. And it'd be easier to convert it to 25 fps if you sell someday your film to european television.
