Davinci resolve 15 performance issue

PostMon Apr 16, 2018 11:52 am

I just installed Dr15 studio public beta and i started by a small project that i have doing some wipes and collages transitions in fusion tab

The overall playback performance is very slow not smooth at all knowing that 14 was running flawlessly

Seconde issue whenever i create fusion clip and go back to the edit tab it refuses to cache or show the blue line on top the caching settings is set to user and set to ON on the clip

My machine

Running osx 10.11.6
2x 3.46 GHZ 6-core intel xeon
96 GB of memory
Geforce GTX Titan X 12287 MB

I'm on a win10 machine and I'm finding the performance in 15 better the 14.

Wonder what the difference is (other then operating system)

I'm on an older iMac and find Resolve 15 Studio to be slightly more responsive than Resolve 14 Studio.

Anybody have faced the issue of fusion clips not caching?

As far as I have tested it seems that the integration of Fusion costs a lot of memory. The more compressed a clip is, the more problems (for instance no caching of Fusion compositions). With a clip from the Iphone in 1080p60 it’s a disaster: no caching at all. A clip in the H264 codec works a little bit better, but in general to slow. Final rendering seems to have less problems with Fusion compositions; this works fine for me.

Normal editing, grading and audio-edits have almost the same performance as in Resolve 14.3.

In case of performance issues with h264 i usually rely on optimized media.
Anyway, my experience with R15 is of smoother playback on my system (Win7 64 bit).
My laptop is not an horsepower machine, but by balancing h264, performance mode (wathever thing it means) and half or quarter resolution (plus the new disable all grading function) i can edit 4k h264 smoothly.
Obviously when everything is on when grading, i must use some patience.

My experience on a new iMac 5K with the intermediate video card is that v15 got slow very quickly as I edited a short with just 1920x1080 23.976P that was shot in the Alexa mini. I figured it was just because it's an early beta but if others see it going full speed it sounds like I've run into a problem. I'll post a bug with logfiles but not sure how much help they'll be...

I have been experimenting trying out parallax on a still image using fusion and also noticed clips not caching.

The setup I was testing is Resolve 15 on Window 10 with 16G ram and a 1050ti card with 4G of VRam and a RME RayDat audio card linked to a Yamaha 02r96 mixing desk. I normally use this system for Cubase, Adobe Audition, Vegas, Premiere Pro and Sound Forge.
Thank you

New insights: I feel like on Mac OS Resolve 15 is much snappier than on my (faster) windows machine...also H265 works on Mac which doesn't make sense.
