where are my projects?

PostSun Apr 24, 2016 1:01 pm

i have been working on a project in resolve lite 12.3
now i had the chance to borrow a dongle for the studio version from a colleague.
seeing it is a separate download, with a different name, i downloaded resolve studio 12.5, assuming it would install side by side with the 12.3 lite install.
BUT, it seems to have installed on top.
i've been a mac user since mid 90ies, and i have never seen this.
well anyway, i thought, the projects will hopefully still be there. at least there was no warning that anything would be overwritten.
BUT NO!! project manager is now empty!!
i've had my heart pounding like crazy for some hours now, faced with having to start all over with my project.
but looking into the matter, i see that there is a substantial amount of data left (see path below), that i hope will be possible to import somehow.
~/Library/Containers/com.blackmagic-design.DaVinciResolveLite/Data/Library/Application Support/Resolve Disk Database/Resolve Projects/Users/guest/Projects/
this folder seemingly contains my project!
(it also contains a settings folder, that i guess would be useful)
(andi don't know why the install of the studio version hasn't created a path parallel to this path.)

but, PLEASE, if anyone of you experienced users could give some tips on how to retrieve my project, i would be super happy, and my heart would probably retain its normal rate :-)
thanks in advance!!

I haven't analysed the 12.5 structure yet. But try to back up and then play around with the Postgres database tables. Hope there might be a configuration table which holds all the project files and references.

Also take an image of your system as it is now and try installing the older version. May be a bug that they changed the project manager view references path and haven't updated the new path or haven't thought about backward compatibility of the new path.

What about re-installing 12.3 and seeing if your projects are still there? If they are you could export them for safe keeping at the very least.

we figured out that my 12.3 originated from a mac app store download, which uses a different default path for its disk database. i found no documentation for this, though.
all is well now, - it was just a matter of dragging the old database into place in finder ;)

I am having the same issue.. Was using Resolve Lite 12.5, needed the functionality of Studio so I grabbed the Dongle from my server, installed Studio, only to find my project were gone. Can't find the database, doesn't allow me to restore it either. Any suggestions?

Were you using Apple App Store Resolve Lite?

Yeah, tried the new 15, loved it, but as others have observed it is confusing, and likely useless for dynamically locating whole projects, and for making backups. I have not seen a convincing explanation, or solution, and as such will be a deal breaker for us which is a pity. I am really trying to get on board with Resolve, please help me.

So, has the upgrade to Studio been fixed? Does it still lose projects?

The only issues you should run into with Resolve upgrades losing projects, is if you are using the Apple App Store version of Resolve, and change from the free version to the Studio version, or visa versa, or from ANY App store version, to a version from the BMD web site.

If you have that scenario, just Backup the database from one version and Restore that database in the other version.
