Need Help Moving Clips

PostFri Apr 27, 2018 5:46 pm

Hi,

I'm trying to learn Resolve, and I've used the manual as much as I can, but I must be missing the terminology or understanding something to figure this out, and I would love some help.

I have a collection of videos (30 sec - 15 minute) taken at an event and I want to take short clips from each and edit them together. If I put the clips in Timeline 1 and start slicing, I have the problem of the remaining clips locking together. I would like to be able to move them around after I've cut out the pieces I want. It's been very hard to do that and they stick and stretch and do strange things. Seems like I should be able to drag and drop.

I also tried putting the big clip on Timeline 2 with the hopes of being able to cut out a clip (with the razor blade) and drop it into Timeline 1. Then I'd delete Timeline 2 that has all the excess. But I can't seem to move clips between the two timelines.

I also don't see how I could create a clip and save it, by itself, to the media pool.

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it. I'm entirely self-taught here, and while I've been doing okay, I've not tried anything this complex before. Please keep your answers beginner friendly.

If it matters, the videos were originally in .avi, but I converted them to .mp4 before importing them to the media pool. I plan to publish on YouTube.

Thank you, in advance, for any help.

A bit of reading or watching some videos for learning Resolve should help, really.

But if I understand correctly, what you want to do is making subclips, which can be done in the Media page or in the Edit page. Check the manual for that expression.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Thank you. I’ll try searching that. Appreciate the insight on the terminology.
