Afterwards, DaVinci Resolve shows up in the apps list, but does not run, and syslog shows

The necessary libs need to be installed manually.

Look for pointers in the Mint install guide.

[again:] you should really think about at least removing the stupid advice:

2. Terminal: sudo ln -s /usr/lib /usr/lib64

in this description...

and add a link pointing to:

https://wiki.debian.org/DontBreakDebian

instead!

Whoa! That's some old workaround on Ubuntu installs, which has most certainly outstayed its welcome! :o

Removed the symlink and 15b2 works just as well, so safe to say, it's out the door now. Many thanks for pointing this one out.

well -- the installer will [still] stuble of this really trivial fixable issue [which btw. also happend in the case of the TO] and refuse to install some parts of the panel driver...

but the actual resolve installer so tremendous buggy, that it will not stop and revert/cleanup it's already accomplished partial installation and report a final error message, like most other software of this kind would do, but simply ignores all this hindrances and errors and quite often produces just a big mess on your system resp. an unusable incomplete installation at the end, which you have to clean up yourself! :(
