15 takes over R3D decoding from 14

PostThu May 03, 2018 4:15 pm

I would like to have the ability to run 14.3 and 15 beta alongside each other. I can accomplish this easily by renaming the DaVinci Resolve folder to "DaVinci Resolve 14", then install 15 beta and rename that folder to "DaVinci Resolve 15". Now both run on my computer. However, when I run 14.3, I get R3D decoder errors that it's not available. But it works in 15. I'd like to still be able to work on an R3D project in 14.3. Uninstalling both 14.3 and 15 beta, then re-installing 14.3 does work, but then I have to re-install 15 beta to be able to test it, and then repeat all of that when another R3D project comes to me. How can I make sure the R3D decoding still works in 14.3 while 15 is installed?

So basically you've 'hacked' Resolve and now you're complaining that it's not behaving correctly.

The installation does not only comprise of files in the DaVinci Resolve folder. It also includes all sorts of other files installed on other parts of the System.

If you want to run 14 and 15, you will need to partition your machine and boot up with each separate partition depending on what you want to use at that time. Otherwise just stick it out with 14 until the official 15 is out of beta.

1. It's not a hack.
2. I'm not the only person running or trying to run 14 and 15 on the same partition.
3. This worked without any issues on previous versions (i.e. running 12.5 and 14 beta)
4. BMD should understand that if they want more people to test 15 betas to report issues and provide feedback they should make it so that users can run both on the same system... 14 for important projects and 15 for testing and smaller, less important projects
