1080ti Render Question

PostWed May 02, 2018 6:26 pm

Been plugging along on 14.3 and I knew I was unable to render 8k with NR with my 980 ti's, but I've just installed a new 1080 ti and I was hoping this limitation was behind me...But it still crashes out when rendering 8k with 1 node of NR. Windows 10. I'd like to get confirmation that this should work fine before I start digging into updating drivers etc...

Hi Peter,

No dpx renders, but that's good to know if that might be an issue...I tried dnxhr 4444 10 bit with no luck but it did get through the render with dnxhq. I do have a layer or 2 of tracking on there that I was going to remove and try tomorrow. Not sure how much extra strain that adds. When the render is unsuccessful it simply crashes to the desktop, no errors. Source are 8k r3d files. Thanks Peter

crash log will help.. but my guess is the 980 is running out of resources.. you might need to do two passes.

1080 ti....2 passes meaning 1 for everything except nr, then an nr pass? So a 1080 ti should be able to render 8k with a 1 node that is just nr?

Im not saying the 1080 is sufficient. The 8K work ive done is with a GP100. lots of ram.
Just suggesting to try separating NR from all other tasks.

Thanks Peter. Good to know the limitations. I appreciate the information and will continue the testing.

Hey Peter...found something interesting. Similar results from 2 separate cards. If I underclock the gpu and the gram the card is much more stable during render. Can actually render several nodes of color with a NR node. Not sure if there's anything on your developers end that could help address the resources being asked of from the card to make it more stable by default. I noticed with my render Mac things were more stable with my 980ti's vs the Windows machine. Not sure if that's worth looking into or is entirely the same issue.
