Have a really over-exposed face in one of my interviews done for short doc, wondering best ways to get rid of that, as so far unsuccessful

Maybe select the highlights and apply the hue to change the color and make it darker this way?

If not: no chance to really save it.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

I think Daniel above is on the right track: use a luma-only key and grab the clipped portions of the face. Use a tracking mask to only affect the face, then use the gain controls to force some degree of flesh-tone color into the white areas. Some careful skin defocus and glow might take the curse off it. It's never going to be good, but it can get a little better.
