Crash on startup at plugins

Starting up R15b2, crashes when it gets to plugins section during startup.

new crash, the updating vat plugins progress bar shows up, gets to end ( Arturia Preamps ) and then the app appears to crash..

BCC, Saphire, RSMB ( OFX )
VST : Izotope RX5 & 6, Arturia PreAmps, standard apple stuff from FCP X install
Mini Panel, 4K extreme, XTouch main. unit

suggestions ? this of course was working ok 2 days ago when I last had the app open. maybe I need to clear prefs and _not_ load whatever project is open ? is there a quick way to do that ? or clear app prefs for start up ?

tried again today. after one start & crash, another startup landed on the open window and update db dialog. worked ok from there. I guess whatever was going wrong, the app eventually got thru it after many attempts art startup.
