Exporting Timeline For Sound Editor

PostThu Jun 07, 2018 12:25 am

I have a feature I'm editing using 14 and now 15 studio. My sound designer is in Rome. I'm in NYC. I had this idea for him to open up a the final timeline with the audio files only in DR 15 studio. do his work in firelight and send back to me. This way, I'd have the final sound edits with individual clips into my final project / timeline.

DR tech support suggested I copy and paste the final timeline into a new project. Thus, only bringing in the audio files I need for the final edit/timeline. So, I unlink all the video files. Select only the audio file. Then, a ref movie can be imported to the video track. The final result, I have my final timeline in project with only the sound files.

This worked except for one big problem. The audio files were synced to video files. So, when I copied and pasted the audio files to the new projects timeline... Yes, the video track was empty. But in the bin was filled with synced video files.

When I archived the project, the file size was close to a terabyte. Not good.

What I wanted to to do is only have the audio files when I archive the project. Thus, the files size will be 25 mbs or something small. Making sending to Rome and back to NYC very easy.

I'm happy to do a complete different process... but this should work right? How can I should this exporting issue and working with my sound editor.

Are the audio clips embedded in the source video clips?
If not, try sorting the media pool by type and deleting the video clips.

The audio sources are not exactly embedded but synced. I recorded sound on tascam hard disk then synced in Resolve. When I go into the bin, right click on the synced video file to unsync, the audio file on the timeline goes red.
