Help!! Problem with Match Move and Stills

PostSat Jun 09, 2018 7:16 am

Hi all!

I have an urgent problem with a scene.

In DaVinci Resolve 14.3 Studio, I did a match move on a scene. Tracking is perfect.
But when I use the matte for the plate, the render introduces ugly aliasing in it.

In my case, I have a still picture of the Milky Way with thousands of stars.
In the render, the stars (pixels) are moving and glittering/flickering.

Please, see the example (MOV):
https://my.hidrive.com/lnk/OomugWsz

I also tried to replace the stars picture by a normal picture. I see that the picture also has aliasing.
I know, that the dimensions of the picture and the place to be inserted in the shot do not match,
but the resizing from Match Move does not matter. But I was hoping the scaling would be more anti-aliased and not glittering/flickering.

Is there a way to solve this?
Thank you.

Jeff

I really tried every anti-aliasing setting in the project options,
but why does Match Move gives me aliasing on the plate (see stars movie above - via download),
or why do I get those ugly edges on the applied footage?

The harsh edges I could solve with blur.... but the main issues stays:
The content of the insert is not smooth so it generates moving artifacts (that glittering/flickering) on the image itself.

Is there a way to avoid this?
Just watch the MOV (see above), you immediately see what I mean. :?

After testing and doing.... I do not get rid of the flickering in the inserted Milky Way image.

So I recreated that tracking in Fusion and there the resizing is smooth (Milky Way image does not flicker).
Also in Fusion, there is an option called "Smooth Resizing".

Is such an option missing in DaVinci Studio 14.3?
It seems that the resized image in DaVinci (which is inserted into via corner pin operation) is not smoothly applyed, i.e. without anti-aliasing.

Any solution?

Use Fusion. BM will probably not improve such scaling any more, more that integration of fusion is in the works.

Yes, for now it seems the only solution.
