DPX v2.0 vs DPX 1.0

PostTue Jun 19, 2018 2:44 pm

Hello,

I have customers that asked us to create specifically DPX v2.0 files (that conforms to SMPTE Standard 268M-2003). However, Resolve 14 (and Resolve 15 Beta) seems to create only DPX v1.0 files.
I understand that it changes the header with additionnal data and a better structure of the header.

When you import DPX 2.0 files into Resolve, they are imported ok.
But is there a way to create this kind of filess in the deliver tab?
If not, is it something in the roadmap?

Thanks for your help.

Regards.

Can u ask your customer what application needs the dpx in that format?
Give dpx is used daily in thousands of renders it’s an interesting request

I don't think it's for a specific software.
The files are dedicated to be archived.

So for preservation consideration, our customer wants to go with the latest recommandations from the standard organizations (SMPTE).

Ah, well we dont render in that format as its not used in the industry. Well hardly used.
Also, if they truly want to archive, it usually in EXR.

These days it would be a good idea to use ACES standards for archives.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

Which ACES? There are several to choose from. (You see the problem.)

Used ACES version should be written to metadata. This way whichever was used, it is possible to arrive to common ground and work from there.

It’s actually pretty straightforward. ACES2065-1 is the format for archival purposes and data handoffs.
