XML import from FCPX - crop shows

PostWed Jun 27, 2018 6:21 am

During my edit in FCP X I cropped a few shots.

In FCP X the crop then fills the browser window.

But exporting XML and importing into DVR 14 this doesn't work.

I get a the frame in its original size, surrounded by black (the part that I had cropped out)

Exporting into Quicktime - the black of the cropped frame is there and the Quicktime export therefore useless.

Is cropping something that doesn't work with XML exports, or how can I make it show up in DVR 14 as it does in FCP X?

Cropping and resizing doesn't always transfer as expected, better do it in the target system.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.

If you used the crop function in FCPX that is accessed by the button under the record viewer, then it won't work as expected. That function is unique to FCPX, it crops and scales in one operation purely for convenience. Cropping in all other NLEs will crop without scaling. FCPX also has conventional crop controls in the Inspector panel. For XML compatability, use resizing, not crop.
