Why can't you just click which track you want and paste?

Can someone please explain to me - Why is it that with seemingly all NLE's, you can't just click the track you want to paste to, and paste an item to it? Instead, you have to deselect tracks you don't want to be active, and then paste. It's so backwards to me.

For example, you want to copy one clip from one track to another for whatever reason. You can't just click the clip, press copy, move the timeline head to the position you want, click the track you want to put it in to, and paste - i.e., what you would do in any other program by nature. Instead, you have to make all other tracks inactive and then paste it. And, even then, sometimes it just refuses to paste.

Is there a reason why Resolve can't make a step forwards, here, and allow us to simply click the track we want to paste to, and paste in to it directly?

Thanks for any insights!

Option-click the auto selector of the track to which you want to paste. If it's a video clip with audio, you'll also need to option-click the target audio track.
