Remote collaboration queries

PostWed Aug 22, 2018 5:40 pm

Hey all,

me and my friend have been shooting, editing and colouring our footage in Resolve (and BMD cameras) for a bit now and we want to try and take advantage of the collaboration setup. The issues being:
1. we are remote from each other (same city).
2. my internet is trash.

Reason I mention the same city, is we trade footage on ssd right now, and recently we attempted the 'export project' option so I can transfer over my cuts to my mate. It worked! He just relinked to all the footage he had and we're away.

So now I wonder if we can setup the Collab DB and work that way, if we both have copies of the source footage already, the online transfers would only need the 'instructions' of changes until we started to bake in effects, right? Do I need to setup a VPN so that my friend can host the db? It looks like from here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=58640&p=426604&hilit=remote+collaboration#p426604 you can host the db online, but, I don't want Resolve to try and retrieve footage from online sources as my 8mb line will not be up to the task.

Any recommendations on remote collaboration workflow welcome, very much learning. Thanks.
