bottlenecked by gpu, anyway to push to cpu?

PostTue Aug 28, 2018 7:54 pm

I get super bottlenecked by my 16gb Vega 64 GPU, my 18 cores being jammed up big time because of it. Is there anyway to make davinci a bit more cpu processor heavy instead of gpu? I put on some noise reduction, or if I'm using text, its game over. I never expected to have any choppy playback from such a crazy computer.

No. One GPU is undersized for real time NR/GPU OFX.

Jake is right, I guess you have an iMacPro 18 core with a 16 GB Vega 64 card.
When you want more speed get 1 or 2 eGPU's (Vega FE or WX9100)

It's like Jack said, you can improve the speed on your iMacPro with some eGPU's (AMD: Vega FE's or WX9100).

Thanks Jack good to know. Appreciate it.

Even with this monster of a computer, a Black Magic External GPU would be a good solution if I wanted to do extra heavy stuff and have real time play back?

No, another identical GPU in the computer would be a beast!

Hi.

You call it a monster computer. But in Resolve the CPU is used to run the app, disk I/O and compression and decompression of codecs. Resolve does all its image processing in the GPU on the graphics card. More CUDA/OpenCL Cores are better.

As I understand a dual GPU setup will it perform as the slowest of the two GPU's. The External GPU's 4 PCIe lanes will be much slower than the internal graphics cards 16 PCIe lanes. Så an extenal GPU will not solve your problem.

But I wonder when you describe your graphics card as a 16gb Vega 64 GPU. According to this link from AMD has the Vega 64 GPU only 8 GB?

The Vega 64 in the iMac 'Pro' has 16 GB.
