Prores color tag

PostTue Sep 04, 2018 10:29 pm

I got a prores master rejected from Amazon because

"color primaries ate tagged as bt1886 in media info (should be bt 2020)/ transfer coefficient should be PQ."

As far as i know o habe no way to tell resolve to "tag" that specific line in the prores header.

1) is there any way?
2) how to tag it elsewhere?

If you're in RCM or ACES, the output transform should be in the metadata. If you're in DaVinci YRGB, the timeline space should be in the metadata.

That said, Resolve still doesn't have a way to add the rest of the HDR metadata so if the file needs the MaxFall, MaxCLL, and Primaries, you're out of luck inside of Resolve.

You can use MediaInfo to check what metadata is embedded in a file.

It does not really matter where i am, if i manage color transformations in timeline, the tineline could be anything.

What we need is a drop down menu like nucoda has: you want prores? Here are the option for gamut and such.

Either leave in auto or pick.

I can provide screenshots from nucoda if needed

Yes, MediaInfo will help to double check the specifications contained on the file. It provides extensive details on anything you drag into.

As for writing the tag, I would give a try to Adobe Media Encoder using the costume export feature.
I never used it for this particular need, but it will be worth a try.

The timeline colourspace drop-down is used to tag the file in non color managed modes (RCM/ACES). So please set it to whatever your output is going to be.

It's the only tool which will also go through ProRes private headers flag (not only global "colr" atom one) and change tagging for all ProRes frames in whole file. It may take some time for big files.

In many case changing MOV 'colr' atom is enough as most tools rely on this one (and ignore ProRes frames private headers).

Rohit, I do agree that the tag that will be embedded in an export should be visible and adjustable from the delivery page. It's a logical location to set export metadata.

... also there should be a colour space transform option in the delivery page so you can say what your timeline output is and if you want a conversion at the end, what you would like to it be converted to. I know you can do this in the timeline node as a ResolveFX, but if you have multiple deliverables, this would be a lifesaver if you can queue an sRGB QT review, a Rec709 version and a P3 version for instance.

Tried to flag timeline as recommended (14.3.1) and works ad advertised.

Thanks!

I Will still ask for explicit export menu.
