Background processing of newly imported footage

I'm curious about the nature of the background processing that goes on when a piece of footage is imported. I've noticed that this processing causes sluggish performance and that I need to wait for it to finish before I can work smoothly. However, I don't see any way to monitor the status of the background processing so there's no way to predict how long I have to wait before it will be ready to work with. Is there some way to visualize the progress of whatever it is Resolve is doing after importing a piece of footage and placing it on a timeline?
