Thumbs up for DaVinci Resolve 15

PostSun Sep 16, 2018 7:10 am

I just finished my first project with DaVinci Resolve 15. I used to use premiere but I don't think I'll be doing that anymore. Resolve used my Hardware to its fullest unlike Premier that only would run it at about half speed . Render times for a 32 minute project which included heavy grading and 20% noise reduction only took 24 minutes. I found the editing was a pleasant experience and look forward to learning more about how to operate this program at its full potential.

The only two possible bugs I noticed during my project was an occasional crashing during stabilization and excessive rendering of cached color clips. I would think the proper operation is that once it wrote the cache once, it would not have to do it again unless you changed it. I did notice that some of my heavy noise reduction clips we're rewriting the cache without changes being made. Just the simple Act of playing the clip would trigger it to re-render. This would only happen with the clips that had heavy noise reduction .

As I said, overall it was a very pleasant experience and I think this is the version that will cause me to pull the plug on premiere.

I enabled hardware rendering in export dialogue box and it finished my 5 min 1080p timeline in 1 min 20sec. Using premiere pro cc 2018.
