Lags in Davinci Resolve 15 - System weak, bad codec, etc?

PostSun Sep 16, 2018 5:25 pm

Hey guys,

I already worked with Davinci Resolve and it went well. But now I have problems, because Davinci is lagging.

What I already dig to solve the problem:

I did all configurations recommended in the Davinci 15 Configuration Guide
I moved Davinci and my Files to my SSD
I installed the new Nvidia driver

My System:

Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790 CPU @ 3.60GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.6GHz
Memory: 16384MB RAM
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970

I trying to edit footage in 1920x1080 and 30 FPS. It was recorded with my Huawai Honour X6 and afterwards converted with "Handbrake" to .m4v (H.265) and constant FPS. I did this, because my smartphone records with a variable FPS, which Davinci could not handle.
I could try to create Proxy Files, but I think my setup should be able to perform Full-HD-Editing, shouldn't it?
Should I change the Codec? Is my Computer to weak for Full-HD-Editing?

Use either dnx or prores as intermediate, not h265

I agree with Walter.. H265 is not a good choice. I also notice that you've only got 16GB of RAM and I think Resolve 15 likes a little more than that, although V14 runs fine with just 16GB.

Hey,
Thank you for your answers.
I tried to optimize the media in davinci, which worked fine. Even with 16 GB.
I couldn't find the system requirements for Davinci. Are there any?
I used to render my material witch Handbrake, but handbraked cannot render to Dnx.
Can you recommend a programm for rendering my material in Dnx before using in Davinchi?

You can use resolve itself to transcode media.

They have a configuration guide on the site.
16GB RAM is fine for 15 as long as you are not using Fusion, but the GPU is very important.
My disaster protection: export a .drp file to a physically separated storage regularly.
