Resolve Studio dongle vs Fusion dongle

PostSun Sep 23, 2018 10:46 am

EHLO (o;

What is the exact reason that Fusion Stdio 9 owners can also run Resolve Studio 15 with their dongle
but not the other way around?

I assume many people bought Resolve Stdio 15 due to the Fusion integration...
but since the integration is still a long way to go...

Wouldn't it be nice if we could also have during this time a Fusion Studio 9 version which also works with the DRS dongle?

Many people guess that the future of standalone fusion is uncertain.
In case Blackmagic drops fusion standalone, the owners of fusion studio don't loose a license they paid for

Well that makes sense...

OTOH BMD mentioned here in August that it would take 12 to 18 months to fully integrate Fusion into Resolve Studio...

So all people who bought Resolve Studio 15 got version 14 instead with an unfinished and heavily unstable Fusion part...

That's the reason for the wish for getting the Fusion Studio running with the Resolve Studio dongle as well...otherwise I think people won't wait 18 months for features which was promised already ;-)

@davorin: completely agree with you.

Fusion in Resolve on Linux is still unusable, it would be very nice to get Fusion running with the Resolve USB dongle.

Too sad there isn't any "vote" feature in this forum ;-)

So all people who want to run Fusion Studio on Linux with the Resolve Studio dongle please leave a message here (o;

We may never know the answer but my guess is it involves the words prores, licensing and windows. Possibly. And maybe apples licensing rules because fusion studio encodes prores on windows which is something resolve won’t do for whatever reason, of which we will never really know.

Just my guess however

Well my biggest wish is to have be able to run Fusion Studio Linux version with the Resolve Studio dongle...
not for Windows..there are less bugs than on the Linux version...or no crashes when using the paint toll like on Linux...

And since there will never be Fusion 10 Studio (as there haven't been any updates since December 2017) this would make perfect sense not only for me ;-)

There’s also the matter of users who spent many thousands kitting their facilities out for fusion pipelines only to have it end of life’d With no warning.

To give it away with resolve would be grating enough without giving out the studio version too.

Also, as a legacy product that was buggy anyway I’m not too sure how giving it to many thousands of new users helps blackmagic (who already do a major favour to everyone with resolve)

Just guesses

From the product page which is now some months old (o;

"DaVinci Resolve 15 now has full Fusion visual effects and motion graphics built in!"

Should be extended to something like:

"Okay..maybe built in, but not all are working or may crash your system" (o;

And again a new release called 15.1.1.005 with the same paint tool merge crash as before on Linux...
