NVIDIA and AMD Hardware

PostWed Oct 03, 2018 3:09 pm

I hope this is the right place to ask this question.

I'm going through the hardware selection and configuration guide and there is a section talking about drivers.

"Please note that systems running both NVIDIA and AMD hardware simultaneously is not supported on DaVinci Resolve for Windows systems."

I have a buddy who runs a Ryzen chip with a GTX 1080 graphics card and has no issues whatsoever with running Resolve. The company I work for has tasked me with putting together a few different build ideas for us to start using Resolve here at work. Well, I put a Threadripper system together with a GTX 1080ti graphics card because the AMD chip is, in my opinion, the best price for performance and the 1080ti is a better graphics card than the Vega 64.

So my question is, what exactly isn't supported by running an AMD chip with an NVIDIA GPU? There are plenty of builds out there that run such a configuration why wouldn't your software be able to support it?

Thank you.

I'm sure the configuration guide is referring to GPUs, in this case.
Ryzen 5800X3D
32GB DDR4-3600
RTX 3090
DeckLink 4K Extreme 12G
Resolve Studio 17.4.1
Windows 11 Pro 21H2

That is what I was thinking but I wanted to be 100% certain that there isn't going to be any support issues since we are moving from FCPX to Resolve Studio.
