Resolve, HW and editing 7.1 audio

PostFri Oct 05, 2018 11:05 am

Hi,
my first post here. Please excuse my english since it´s not my native language.
I am putting together a small combined music and video editing studio. It will be shared with some friends and used for both hobby projects as well as some work projects. I did some video editing long time ago and now when I am eager to start up that work again I found Resolve and decided to use this software, hence I look upon myself as a newbie in this area.

Since we are a couple of users it has been decided to use a USB-C dock so that everybody can work on their own laptop. (Both PC´s and Mac´s.) I have a few questions that I hope someone can help me with:

1. I have a 7.2 amplifier (Pioneer VSX 923) and a complete array of speakers to this. Is it possible to run an external USB soundcard hooked up to the dock and then via SPDIF out from the soundcard connect this to the Pioneer amp?

2. Will I be able to edit/mix the sound to 7.1 with such a setup?

3. What would a typical workflow look like (regarding the sound) when using Resolve for editing? Which hardware/software products should I look for?

Please keep in mind that I am maybe not looking for a true professional solution since I guess one can spend a lot of money just buying all kind of nice-to-have equipment. :)

Many thanks in advance!
