Dustbuster issues in Resolve 15

I'm using Davinci Resolve on Mac running High Sierra. When applying the Dustbuster as a node in Color it will automatically clean throught the clip. This wouldn't be such a problem if it were actually cleaning dirt instead of seemingly random parts of the frame creating weird motion artifacts and distortions.

My understanding is that this should be a manual fX plug-in only. Am I just doing something wrong?

I should also mention that I've had limited success with the Automatic Dustbuster too. I've spent a lot of time tweaking settings but don't seem to get many gains. Also when applying automatic dustbusting and then applying a node of regular dustbuster the Automatic Dustbusting seems to stop working.
