Vanishing Timelines

PostFri Feb 05, 2021 3:11 pm

Have a project with several timelines but when I re-open Reslove some timelines are missing - simply vanished
I am using a new MacMini M1 (Big Sur) with Resolve 17.1N Build11 and generally it is going really well but this is a weird bug.

I am shooting various short sequences that individually need outputting for use in a larger project.
I have organised the groups of shots into bins with names that reflect the sequence.

When I open a bin the 2 or 3 shots needed for the sequence are available and I create a new timeline with the name of that sequence and then assemble my shots on it and then export that sequence.

Fine

But after talking with the client I needed to alter some shot durations so I re-opened the first of 3 similar projects, located the relevant bin and there were the clips ....but NO TIMELINES.

I have 3 projects that I have been working on in an identical way and the most recent two have displayed some errant behaviour too - Timelines not showing up in the stacked timeline viewer but actually being in their relevant bins.

The first project though has dumped my Timelines somewhere and I can't find them
My technique hasn't changed but Timelines seem to be disappearing

Any thoughts ??

Fortunately not much lost (I was testing DR17 Studio) but found that it I save File/Exort/Timeline I had everything there next time.

I would like to know more about this myself.
Im on Beta 9 now and havent tried any other ways of saving. All the best.

If you can see them in your bins, do they open when you double-click them?

There’s a user preference that lets you either load all timelines when you open a project, or only the active one. Maybe try switching that?

There does seem to be a bug where searching for newly created timelines doesn’t reveal them right away. Not sure if this is limited to the “Timelines” smart bin or not. Is that how you’re navigating to your timelines, by any chance?

There is also an option to "disable" timelines, and if you do that, the timelines won't show up in the drop-down menus over viewer etc. This is to let you disable old versions of the timelines.

I am having the same issue. I have had to search for backups and then copy and paste old timelines into a new project.

However today - and this is really Alarming and BMD need to sort this out as a matter of urgency - I have been working on an open project all day, saving regularly, and I just went to load a timeline I edited earlier and the timeline is blank! Everything has gone.

I have just had a look through and possibly I may have a solution for you.....possibly. This is what happened.

I had 2 timelines with the same name in different bins. I changed the name of the one I had not been working on today, then reloaded it and it came back.

So it maybe worth checking if you have any duplicate timelines with the same names in different bins.

Are you using the “timeline” smart bin at all? It’s suspicious that the name of the timeline is related to the problem. I’m looking for confirmation that everyone is using normal bins, and not smart bins. It feels like an issue with filtering to me.

It was a normal bin, not a Smart Bin.
