DR crashing - then 'failed to set video mode....'

I'm running DR 17 studio on a HP Z8 w/ 250gb RAM and an ultrastudio 4k I/O. I'm running dual titan xp video cards. The project is mostly RED Helium 8k w/ some BM URSA and DSLR / GOPro footage mixed in. The RED footage is 24fps, the project is a 1080p/24 project. Desktop video is up to date. Footage is on a StorNext server connected via fiber. I upgraded to 17 public yesterday and worked several hours yesterday and today. At one point I tried inserting a RED clip into my timeline and DR crashed. I restarted and got an 'unable to set video mode' error and restarted my machine. Everything worked for about 5 minutes until I hit ctrl + Z to undo an edit and DR crashed again. I restarted DR and got another 'video mode' error. I upgraded the video card drivers and restarted DR - another 'video mode' error.
