Automating Project Server backups

i would to automate project server backups so that they happen every night after we have finished work. BMD UK support has told this requires third party software.

1) can someone advise what the best software might be?

2) this matter was discussed about five years ago here: viewtopic.php?f=21&t=49618
do these solutions still apply or is there something better or different now?

NB. we run a separate project server currently on windows, but when BMD releases a Linux version i would prefer to switch to linux (probably ubuntu).
