Database Thumb can't be killed!

PostMon Feb 22, 2021 2:40 pm

Hi, tried to ask in older conversation but did not have response. Anyone knows how to deal with the DATABASE thumb itself? On the left side of the project manager page. It is quite annoying because if I remove or change the thumb, it won't apply.

Any hint?

Thanks!

I didn't even know this feature existed! :D

You're saying the Load Image/Remove Image options aren't doing what they're supposed to do?

Have you tried restarting Resolve after a change?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Yes, that option. I tried to restart but it did not work!

For privacy reason it is important for me to remove it.

Any other ideas??

Thanks

That...is...not the question, Yasir.

You've lost me. Databases don't have thumbnails. At least none of the databases on my multiple test systems have thumbnails.

So I'm not sure what you are referring to. It doesn't sound like you are talking about Project thumbnails.

I think he's talking about when you right-click on the icon next to a database name, it gives you the option to use an image. I Haven't tried it, and forgot that it was there.

If you are talking about the little mini-clips in the project manager, you can either delete that project when you are finished with it (of course, saving a backup) or show all the projects in list view (the circled icon.

@Gary, I don't think that's what he's talking about. I think he's talking about what @Jason shows in the image just above your post.

But none of my 16 or 17 databases have that menu when right clicking a database name or that image/icon to the left of the name. Not on the Disk or PostgreSQL databases.

If you have that menu, and/or images in that area to the left of the name, what Resolve version are you using, and on what platform? Maybe it's a Resolve 15 or earlier thing.

I lied. I do see those menus in Resolve 17, on Windows and Mac, on the currently selected database.

Perhaps a new 17 feature then.

Ah yes, when you create a new db in 17, you have the option to select a thumbnail.

@Dario, did you select the thumbnail you are trying to get rid of when you created the database?

OK, I had to iterate through all the 17 betas to see where this stuff got added. It got added in b8.

I haven't created a db recently, so I was unaware of these new functions.

We've also removed the database Connect menu from the New Database button. Which makes sense. Now when you click New Database, the widget that opens only creates a new database.

So where did the database Connect menu go? New icon at the top, next to the Backup and Restore icons.

As best I can tell, the only way to get a database thumbnail is to manually add it when you create the database, or after the fact, with the Load Image menu.

If you didn't want the thumbnail, why did you add it? If you didn't add it, do you know where in the process it got added?

For me, the Remove Image menu works to get rid of the thumbnail. It goes away as soon as I select the menu.

I'm testing on Mac. What platform are you on, and what OS? And is your issue on a Disk db, or PostgreSQL db?

Thank you very much for your attention!

I think the Thumb appeared when I created the first proj in that db. So I removed the thumb but it keeps on displaying it. I'm on windows 10 and the last DR beta version (17.0B build 33).

So if you delete a thumb, it does not appear anymore??

I created a new db, and added a thumbnail with the Load Image menu, and when I then use Remove Image, the thumbnail is gone.

However, I haven't created a project yet in that db. If you think THAT's where the thumbnail is coming from, I'll investigate that.

Using 17b9 Studio on a Big Sur iMac, I've created a Disk and a PostgreSQL db.

I've made 4 new projects in each db, using various test generators. So the Project thumbnails reflect the test gen I used.

None of those thumbnails appear on the database thumbnail.

I wondered if when you had a Project selected, if the db Load Image menu might take the project thumbnail. It does not.

So I see no way to get Project thumbnails to appears as db thumbnails.

So I'd ask again, what exact Resolve software version are you using, and what platform and OS are you using?

And if you had any idea where your current db thumbnail came from, and how it got there, those would be helpful clues.

Yes I think so because there no chance to remove it now that it is here...

Thanks!

I use 17.0B build 33 on windows 10 on a dell xps 15 system.

I think now I have to do some other tests to answer your question...so far thank you so much!!

I'll update you.
