[BUG]Stuttering during playback on the Edit page

PostThu Feb 25, 2021 2:20 pm

17 is "final", so I guess bugs/problems have to be posted here now and not in the beta forum?
I tested it with another clip on the final 17

Selection follows playhead + "Linked selection" not activated = very hard stuttering during the playback on the edit page.

Video of it : https://www.swisstransfer.com/d/f96f55b ... 9a807b460f - It's a 30 fps video sample (AVC) on a 30 fps Full HD timeline. It does the same with other videos.

I have this activated in "System > Decode option" activated : "Decode H.264/H.265 using hardware acceleration / NVIDIA (if it's a relevant information).

Edit : At the very end, the indicator (red/green dot) is moving, I don't know if it's because of OBS recording the screen or if it was a glitch of Resolve's UI.

I didn't :D
I found this randomly... now I just don't use "selection follows playhead" with the "linked selection" not activated.

But the bug should still be fixed

I'm seeing the same here in Studio 17.1 b10 for Windows.

With Linked Selection on, playback is normal. Turn it off and whoa!

In your comment here on my other post about it : https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=134732 you wrote :

"I can't duplicate this in Studio 17b9 for Windows. Playback is perfect under the specified conditions." - I was on the same version, and I provided a video of me changing these option "live" on video during the playback to show how to reproduce it.

When 17.0 final came out, I responded to my own tread saying that the bug was still there (without any response from you).

And now you got it too in 17.1 b10?

2 possibilities

1) You did not repeat the simple steps I detailed to reproduce the bug the first time
2) I was (am) very vocal about your way of responding/dismissing feature requests, etc. and you just responded by a generic (without testing anything, or maybe you saw the problem!) : I don't see a problem.

In the context of this forum and the "problems" I saw all these months with some people, it's really hard to imagine 3rd option here. Like this bug jumping "your" version, then not testing it again with the final version when you have a bug new "orange" icon in your "view your posts", and now testing it (after someone else reported the same thing)... and get it in 17.1 b10?

I'm not saying this can't happen, to you,... but it's (I'm sure) unlikely considering the other elements. And since you did not provide proof that there was no bug in 17 b9, I'm obligated to doubt your honesty on this subject, sorry.

Anyway, it's a good thing, because now I will ask to anyone who is not seeing a bug I'm reporting, to prove it with a video following the same steps (especially if I provide a video myself first). And I'll do the same if I'm responding to someone reporting a bug.

The most important thing for me is truth and facts. So I really hope you never had dismissed other bugs in this way, by not testing anything.

PS.
I'm critical because I really think it's important to be able to trust people on this forum in regards to testing bugs (or in general), and to be able to ask others to express their opinions with detailed examples, and not base their responses on just feelings (like in the feature requests forum, or when someone is seeking help)

That's sort of true. When I tried again this time around, I didn't experience the problem.

But then I noticed that the timeline I was using didn't have audio that was inherently linked to the video. The audio clips were from a Zoom recorder.

I caught that this time around and tried another test with new clips that had both video and audio, and was able to reproduce.

So having clips with linked audio is a relevant factor on this one. I missed that before.

Effects and transitions between clips also cause stuttering on the edit page unless you have an empty adjustment layer over the top, really weird fix
