Will this work?

PostMon Mar 08, 2021 11:27 pm

Hello, I'm new to Resolve, I just got Resolve 17 and I'm getting going with it.

I'm working on a project shot on a Sony FX-9 and wanted to do it in resolve, but I quickly found the footage won't work -- presumably because I'm using the free version.

I've ordered Resolve Studio but it's back ordered, and I don't have time to just sit and wait. So I want to start cutting with proxy files and then swap out with the original footage when Studio arrives.

So here's what I've done....

Rendered out HD proxies of everything in Media Encoder
Made a new project in Resolve 17
imported the original FX-9 footage into the project to get the project settings right
imported the proxy footage and started cutting

...so now whenever I get the dongle, I can upgrade to Resolve Studio and go through the project and do "Replace Clip" with all the footage to swap it out with the original footage..... right?

Can anyone tell me if this isn't going to work?

Thank you!

It might be even easier. (This is theoretical, I haven't tested.)

If you create your proxies properly, you can just Link the proxies to the original clips and select Use Proxies If Available option under the Playback menu.

Then you won't have to Replace the clips later.

Chapter 6 of the Reference Manual will have the details.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Oooh yes this seems to be working. I've linked the proxies and I'm in business. Thank you!
