Dropped frames on 17.1 / Ryzen 3950X / RTX 2080Ti

PostWed Mar 10, 2021 5:15 am

I've just upgraded from Studio 17.0 to Studio 17.1 (kudos on the release guys) and projects/timelines which played back perfectly in 17.0 are now dropping frames and stuttering in 17.1

The files are all H265 shot in 6K Anamorphic mode on a GH5 de-squeezed at 1.8x

I've uninstalled 17.1 and reinstalled 17.1 - same issue
I've uninstalled 17.1 and reinstalled 17.0 - dropped frames go away and playback at 24fps is as expected

This is on Windows 10 (20H2) on an AMD Ryzen 3950X with 64GB RAM, an NVIDIA RTX2080Ti and the latest NVidia Studio Drivers (461.72)

17.0 Studio version playback of the H.265 content is fine, 17.1 Studio and playback is choppy

I've tested several timelines in 2 different projects (all projects in SQL and source material on the same CIFS mounted via 10Gig ethernet). Only change is 17.0->17.1

Is anyone else experiencing problems with H.265 playback?

I should add each timeline has an adjustment layer with an auto colour and a single LUT

This is all test footage of new Vazen MFT Anamorphics before starting a new shoot/project

No other effects / etc in play and no audio on the timeline either

Thanks for the report Jon

Is this discrepancy in performance limited to the timeline? Can you see the dropped frames in the source viewer?

Please add a link where we can access a diagnostic log archive (generated from the Help menu) and a win system info NFO file.

Are you able to provide us a link to a project export (DRP) and any sample media where you see this issue? If yes, please include them in the same link.

Thanks

Hi

Not just the timeline, I see it in the source viewer also

Copy of logs and a test file / DRP for you to look at

This only seems to be the last stuff I shot on the GH5 (in 6K Anamorphic) H.265 Main 10 L6.0

Previous 4K H.264 4:2:2 content seems to play back fine in my limited tests this morning

Dropped frames on 17.1 / Ryzen 3950X / RTX 2080Ti

Just to add some confusion into the mix ... my 3090FE finally arrived this morning and with that and the RTX2080Ti combined in my desktop, there was no jitter/dropped frames playing back any of the H.265 Main10 Anamorphic 1.8x clips that yesterday were jittery with just the 2080Ti installed

I'm reluctant to start plugging/unplugging cards willy nilly to run a myriad of tests, but I thought I'd update you just so you know that having moved the RTX2080Ti card into a secondary slot on the X570 mobo and installing the 3090 FE card into the primary slot (with the 2080Ti still as my "video" card and the 3090 there just to speed rendering (and mine the odd BTC) playback is once again stable

What that actually means, I'm not sure though :(
