Purple clipping with Highlight Recovery in Resolve 17.1

PostMon Mar 15, 2021 11:48 pm

I have been observing violet–purple clipping in overexposed highlights with Resolve 17.1 when the Highlight Recovery box is checked:

The footage is Film Gen 4 BRAW from Pocket 4K. I use ACEScct version 1.1, no IDT, Rec.709 ODT, AP1 timeline space, though the effect remains even if I change the colour management to DaVinci YRGB color managed. Gen 5 or Gen 4 colour science in Camera Raw don’t show any difference.

As the second image shows, it’s visible on the railings in addition to the sky. And the effect worsens as the exposure is reduced using Camera Raw.

The image grabs are from clips that were intentionally overexposed. However, the clipping is also present to a slightly lower yet clearly noticeable degree in footage that was properly exposed.

Oddly, this never happened with Resolve 16.2.8 and earlier.

If anybody knows what this is, how to resolve the issue, or point me towards the right thread, I’d really appreciate it.

Haven't seen that yet. Are you able to share a clip for testing?
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
