Upgraded to resolve 17 and my projects have disappeared

PostFri Mar 05, 2021 12:11 pm

Hi there,

I am new to Davinci and recently was prompted to upgrade, so I did... I had no idea about creating project backups and so was surprised when none of my projects showed up when it loaded the new version 17 database... I am just transitioned from Premiere and did not expect problems from upgrading..

I have been prompted once the 17 version opened to save projects before upgrading as otherwise they will be lost so i simply pressed cancel. I am thinking this means i am hopefully still in safe territory and that my projects are recoverable and usable within version 17 once relinked to database...

I just definitely want to do the right thing and not make any mistakes whilst doing it...

Can someone here please guide me on how to do so, as i have about 7 big projects on the go and really want this to work out...

I have seen some forums suggesting to search for the projects in /Library/Application Support/Blackmagic Design/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Disk Database and have had success finding them (am using a mac)

My question is, what is the best way to get the files and database working back to normal without any negative effects on the project

And 2, once they are there, what is the best way to ensure their safety?

Many thanks to any help or advice, i really hope this is a simple fix

You will need to upgrade the database with the move to version 17. Once updated, your projects should all return.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.

Davinci is warning me not to upgrade my database saying i will loose my work...

I am not sure if this is the best idea in this instance

Has anybody had this issue before?

Un instal v17
Put v16 back in
Load project and check it’s there
Back up database
Restore DB
Check the DB restored correctly by opening a project
Then install v17
Select the restored DB to update, not the v16 original
Keep the v16 original without ever changing it

I am having the same issue. However, I DID backup my database (as Resolve 17 launch reccomended). How do I open 16 projects? I can see them in the database. Do I need to re-install 16 and do steps mentioned above?

V16 is needed to open v16 databases, or in v17 you update the database to make it v17 compatible. There is no undo for this process with is why we recommend backing up your DB first.

Thanks Peter, that worked!

I just reinstalled version 16 over version 17 which apparently is fine to do on mac and my database showed up.

Have now backed up my database but will remain in 16 untill all projects are done before upgrading to 17 just to be 100% safe

Thanks again!
