linux DR 17.09

PostWed Feb 17, 2021 10:17 pm

Dear Blackmagic,

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04 with 16G
Nvidia GTX1060, driver 455.45.01

installed 17.09beta today
about page shows, version 17.08 build 33

I have the same problem (never had Resolve running on this Linux machine). Here's what I'm seeing.
Hovering over the media pool icon, the MP4 videos don't display in the preview window.
Media pool doesn't show an icon for these MP4s.
When I drop a MP4 in the timeline only the audio track shows up.

Any advice? seems like the mp4 video codec doesn't activate.

Thanks,
Craig

Hi

Please take a look at the list of supported codecs in each platform. It is likely you're using an H.264/H.265 clip in an MP4 container.

@holla2040: Yeah, as fellow linux user, I confirm h264/h265 codec is only available in the Studio version on linux (some license/royalty thing it seems ...)

Your options are :
- Buy the studio version
- Use another OS
- Transcode the footage to another codec (plain mpeg4 and vp9 are supported. Better is to use some mezzanine codec like Cineform / ProRes / DNX / ... but those take quite a bit of space).

I've also been meaning to try https://nschlia.github.io/ffmpegfs/html/index.html which basically can make any h264 file appear as a series of uncompressed frame on a virtual filesystem which Resolve should be able to load ...

@smunaut ahh, that explains it. My backorder of Resolve Studio 17 with the free speed editor was placed on 11/28, so I can wait (I can dual boot lin/win my desktop). I'm using ATEM Mini Pro ISO created mp4s, so I can't change the encoder codec. Its all good, thanks for your informative answer.

@Shrinivas Thanks for the answer. The MP4s I'm using were generated by my ATEM Mini Pro ISO, so I don't know the encoder it uses. Will investigate.

I just waited and my DR17 Studio order arrived a few days after release. So I'm good now. The GPU encoder is awesome and shortens render time a lot.
