Crash and Memory Issues

PostMon Mar 15, 2021 2:09 am

I am on 17.1 Build 24 according to the splash screen, The version file inside the log package still says 16.2.

I was working fine all day, 2 1920x1080 60P Tracks with a total of 8 audio channels. Then all of a sudden it crashes after I added another clip to the timeline.

Restart the software and the files playback in hyperspeed, after two video decode errors popped up.

Went to the forum and found another user who was having memory leakage issues. So I checked Task Manager and sure enough Davinci is Still active with 1.2 GB of RAM in use. Which windows thought was 67%. So I end that task and my percentage drops to 24%. I open up resolve, the program uses 1.75 GB before a project is even loaded, Windows reports 29%. I load the project I was working on and memory use goes to 2.429 GB, Windows reports 31% total use.

All in all, memory leak aside, this version has been working quite well.

In the 5 minutes it took me to write this post, my mem use went up to 33%. At this rate I am surprised I got 10 hours before it crashed.

For the first time ever, Resolve locked up my computer, sort of. Had to use Ctrl-Alt Delete to reboot so I could get my start menu back.

Resolve completed the render, I just had to use another computer for other things.

The render itself behaved odd, it started at about 33fps and the dropped to 12-14 fps. All other things being equal, Noise Reduction, Grade, etc. CPU use never topped 20%, GPU never topped 35%. Yet the start menu wouldn't work. No microsoft updates were pending.

Render was 1920x1080 60P ProRes 422 to Cineform. Normally pretty quick when no corrections need to happen or when static images are all that need rendered. Didn't even have the 300+ fps I am used to for that.
