stuck on switching back to 17.0 - need a fix

PostWed Mar 10, 2021 3:14 pm

Hello,

because of 17.1 bug on blanking fill I have to go back to 17.0 fast (immediately!).
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=136729

But I have a problem. When starting 17.0 installation, it says I should uninstall 17.1. But my Windows is not showing me any Davinci oder Blackmagic* software to uninstall. Somehow, perhaps at last Davinci updates, Windows seems to "forgot" that Davinci is installed. Also in Windows Control for "uninstall / remove" programs, Davinci is not listed. I also searched for blackmagicdesign and scrolled through the list, I do not have an option to uninstall Davinci from Windows Control Panel.

When I simply try to install 17.0, it's also not working because Davinci installation menu says (installed) on that, and does nothing when click install again.

How to fix that?

Currently, I need a fast fix, because I have to work and need working blanking fill. :-)

thanks a lot
Sebastian

I would not do the regedit thing.

You need to open the Windows Control Panel - Programs and Features panel, right click on DaVinci Resolve and select Uninstall.

Thank you, if you want to help. But I already wrote, that this exactly is my problem and this was not working.
There was no entry in the Windows Software lists for uninstall it.

After trying more and more, also with "JV16 Powertools", I found in this thread...
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=90351
.... finally I could uninstall. I am not sure what was the trick to make it appear in windows "programs menu list" again.

I also edited the registry, the "installation" path was not set in the registry entry of Davinci. Perhaps that got it back. Or it was because I switched to admin account. But normally that's not needed for uninstall any other software.

Anyway, would be much better when your Davinci Resolve "installation menu" manage this. The menu should also let you choose "repair installation" (install the same version again), and also "uninstall" if an installed version is found. Then no problem occur.
And ... of course ... if the installation file of a lower Davinci Version is started, the setup also should assist you to uninstall the newer version and install the older version, in one go.

If in updates are problems like this...
viewtopic.php?f=21&t=136729.
... I think switching back to older versions is needed from time to time. :-)

Thanks a lot

You probably already know this, but just in case you don't, Dwaine and Charles are talking about the Windows Control Panel, not the app list you get in Windows Settings. One way you can get to this by pressing the "Windows" key and typing "control panel". Then click "Programs and Features".

Just making sure you understand the difference.

There are also uninstaller programs available (some free) that may help here, but check the reviews first. Some of them are know for being too aggressive and doing damage to the registry that can be quite hard to fix.

I purchased Version 17, but 2 of the 3 features I need have bugs for my project.
Can I use the license I have and revert back to version 16 on Mac (M1)?
Or can I install the free Davinci Resolve along side the Studio version?

If so, where can I find archived installation files?
Thanks!

License wise, you can use any version. I don't know if the M1 will run V16, though.

No.

Scroll down though the Latest Downloads list. It goes back to something like V12.

The M1 might run 16 in Rosetta2, but it'll probably be no joy.

But can you describe what doesn't work for you on the M1? You may be expecting too much from that machine. It's great for editing on the road and some basic grading. But these entry level models are not enough as your only machine for Resolve und Fusion in particular.
