Colors changes between Resolve versions

PostWed Mar 17, 2021 4:11 pm

Hello folks.
I reopened in 2021 an edit made in 2018 (was it version 12 of Resolve?). Shot with my BMCC 2,5K.

Color grades are all over the place. Seems related to the color science used at that time. Here my old setup:

Today with Resolve 16 all is very saturated and contrasted. The original grade was contrasty enough but today, its blown away. I tried many combinations with the new color science but can't get the result back, or close to what I did 3 years ago.
Any help appreciated. Have a good one folks.

Main transforms of ACES have not changed between v1.x. ACES does not have many components, so if IDT hasn’t changed internally (it might have...) it is something in the color engine.

That screen grab is Resolve 15 at the earliest.

Anyway, I'd speculate it's something to do with RAW settings, as even Resolve 12.0 supported ACES 1.0 (if you'd used ACES 0.7, that would be quite different).

i have a memory of ACES being revised and earlier projects not opening correctly
might have been between v12.5 and v14... a while ago now
and some of the ACES options were removed around v16
short of keeping two versions alive there was no better answer to both

Thanks.
Passing from BlackMagic RAW to another RAW apparently don't change anything.
