Projects missing - database malformed

PostThu Mar 18, 2021 7:50 am

I recently updated to Mac OS 11 Big Sur and my last two projects are missing from Resolve Studio 17. I can see the project files in /Users/markorussa/DaVinci Resolve/Resolve Projects/Users/guest/Projects, but they don't show in the Project Manager. My last database and project backups are a few weeks old and don't have the latest work. I'm fortunate that I finished the projects and exported the final videos, but the final work that I did is now gone.

I've never had this happen before with DaVinci Resolve. Is there any evidence of this happening due to an OS update? Is there any way to recover the work from the Projects directory? The project information is there and the modified dates look correct, they just aren't showing in the Project Manager.

I exported my Diagnostic Logs here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1sCfl0y ... sp=sharing

Re: Last two projects missing after Mac OS update

Looking at an earlier log file I can see errors related to my two missing projects. Is there any way to repair this?

Re: Projects missing after Mac OS update - database malforme

I was able to repair one of the project database files and open it in Resolve. It had one timeline that was empty, so I restored from a project backup using the contextual menu in the Project Manager and it had every last edit. I don't think these kind of project backups are accessible just by searching for it in the Mac OS Finder, so it has to be done inside Resolve.

I tried to do the same "repair" method with another project, but it was still unrecognizable by Resolve. I then realized that I could restore an older database backup that had the project and it would allow me access to newer project backups. It's a strange work around, but it worked well enough. I now have this project back with almost every edit.

I should mention that I'm certain this issue didn't have anything to do with Resolve. My computer was experiencing some very odd crashes with other software and incomplete shut downs that I think led to data corruption. Updating to Big Sur hopefully fixed whatever was causing these issues. The moral of this story is to backup often. I have my project backups saving to the cloud also.
