V17 Speed change in Cut Page

PostFri Mar 19, 2021 9:04 am

Can someone point me to the manual where it explains the use of Speed Change on Cut Page (V17).

I am altering clips of files created from 8mm movies.

I was fooled initially by not spotting the Ripple Sequence tick box in the Inspector. I initially dropped my frame rate to 8 using the Tools facility just above the Timeline. I think it probably does not apply Ripple Sequence and for ages I did not spot it was clipping the end off each clip.

I'm using the Inspector so I can be sure the Ripple Sequence is ticked.

What I don't understand is the box that shows Duration.

The clip above is really short and shows a duration of 26.49.06.

The one below is much longer and shows duration of 27.22.05

What are these figures supposed to be telling me?

Is the safest thing to insert the whole clip, alter the speed in Inspector with Ripple Sequence and then trim the entry and exit if there is too much there?

Any other suggestions?

I don't use the Cut page myself, but Part 3 of the Reference Manual is dedicated to that page. There is a section there on Speed Effects.
My Biases:

You NEED training.
You NEED a desktop.
You NEED a calibrated (non-computer) display.
